You open a new workout program and immediately encounter a line like: 3x10 @ RPE 7, rest 90s, superset with B2. If that reads like code, you are not alone. Fitness plans are written in a dense shorthand that assumes familiarity with a specialized vocabulary most people were never taught.

This reference guide translates the most common terms you will encounter — from basic building blocks like sets and reps to more nuanced concepts like periodization and deload weeks.
